Statement
"The clay and glazes I use for my pots have been developed using local, un-processed materials through research and testing. I knew there had been a rich tradition of potters working in the Philadelphia region making lead glazed slipware, and be the early 18th century salt glazed stoneware. Areas with a history of pottery making have always had a source of good clay." -Nathan Williver

This body of work by Nathan Williver serves as an exploration of various clays and other natural materials that are readily harvested in Pennsylvania. Nathan utilizes many surface treatments in his wares, which are then fired in wood kilns. Soft curvilinear shapes, nuanced surfaces, and a dedication to highly functional pieces are the essence of Nathan's Focus show titled "Subtlety."

Biography
Nathan Willever was raised in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He attended the Maine College of Fine Arts in Portland, Maine, where he earned his Bachelor in Fine Arts in Ceramics Degree. Nate has taught workshops and classes in institutions such as at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA, where he is currently a long term Zeldin Fellow resident. He has also taught classes at Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, MI. and at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, ME. He is currently a full-time studio potter living and working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
